Extracted hydrocarbons need to be energized in order to be delivered to their destination for processing. The first type of pumps used in the oil production chain are the subsurface pumps, used for artificial crude oil lift from oil wells. Once the oil is on the surface it is ready to be transferred to its destination (flow stations), usually by multiphase pumps. Once arrived at the destination, oil and water needs to be pumped in order to be transferred to the treatment plants. Once treated, the fluid must again be pumped either to storage tanks or petroleum refineries. The oil industry is an industry that requires different hydraulic pumps to transport fluids for processing. Oil is not the only fluid being conveyed in this industry. There are fluids having secondary roles and services. For example, it is always necessary to transport clean water, waste water, condensates, or chemicals for processing. Centrifugal pumps have a wide range of applications within the oil industry, especially when fluids with low viscosities are handled and are generally clean. These pumps can handle solids in their flow at a less percentage ratio when compared to dragpumps.
